postheadericon Building an Impressive Gun Collection

Many gun owners have collections that feature a variety of firearms. Collecting guns can be a hobby, and shooting guns at a range can be an enjoyable way to spend time with friends or family. There are plenty of ways that you can build a gun collection that you will enjoy showing off to other collectors.

Search Online
While local shows may offer a selection of firearms, you can also find rare items online. These special finds can add to the value of your collection, and you may be able to find pieces online that you cannot find anywhere else. Consider searching online for the guns that you have not been able to find at local firearm suppliers. Purchasing a new firearm can be an exciting process, and an online search can be a quick way to find out about new firearm offerings.

Consider Options
If you primarily purchase your firearms for target shooting, then you may want to consider an expansive pistol collection. Pistols can be easier to handle than other guns, which makes them ideal for a fun day of shooting at the range. Rifles can be ideal when you are hunting for sport. If you have an upcoming duck or deer hunt planned, then you may want to consider finding a new rifle for your adventure. When you are considering firearm purchases, think about the activities that you enjoy most. This will help you decide which purchases fit you best.

Make Your Selection
If you do not have the extra money available when you make your decision, then you may want to consider purchasing from a vendor who offers firearms financing. A payment plan will offer you the flexibility to enjoy your new firearm while you make payments toward the balance. This can help you enjoy days at the range and hunting trips as soon as you find the gun you want to add to your collection.

Hunting and target shooting are fun hobbies that you can enjoy on your own or with others in your life. Finding and financing a firearm will help you enjoy your time at the range or on a hunting trip.

postheadericon Why You Need A Semi-Automatic Rifle

You are at home enjoying yourself on the sofa. The TV is blaring the latest news about Ebola. The kids are all upstairs playing video games. Your wife is in the kitchen, humming to herself while she brews a cup of coffee. The bag of potato chips at your side still has plenty of the tasty little golden nuggets inside. Everything is quiet and peaceful…but it all ends. Quite suddenly, a volley of blows resounds off the slider in the family room behind you. The kids upstairs, plugged into their headphones, don’t hear it. Your wife thinks it’s something from TV. The shower of blows continues, and you leap up from the sofa in a panic just as the door yields up the ghost and three large men in black jackets come leaping in with handguns. You dart into the kitchen and tow your protesting wife up the stairs into the bedroom. You grab your semi-automatic AR-15 off of its hooks in the closet and crouch near the top of the staircase. You can hear the thugs, obviously drunk, singing songs and smashing things as they come towards the stairway. “Stop!” You yell. “Stop or I will shoot!” Shouting oaths, the thugs rush towards you, firing their guns. Your only hope of survival is to shoot back. Bang! Bang! Bang! With howls, the thugs drop down, severely handicapped. Your semi-automatic rifle has saved the day.

While you may never find yourself in a survival situation such as the one above, owning a semi-automatic rifle can be a very good idea, particularly in today’s world with so many shootings happening on a weekly basis. There have been many instances recently which demonstrate that the ownership of a semi-automatic rifle has saved lives.

Knowing how to safely care for a powerful weapon such as an AR-15 (one of the most popular semi-automatic rifles) is essential both to your well-being and that of your family. An exposed weapon serves as a temptation to curious children and potential thieves. Always keep your rifle stored in a case, preferably one with a lock.

After shooting your rifle, always wipe it down with an oiled rag. Applying gun oil to the metal parts is also a good idea.

If you are storing your rifle for a lengthy period, try to keep it in a hard gun case. Soft gun cases absorb moisture from the air and can transfer the dampness to your weapon.

postheadericon Methods of Protecting Military Bases

For obvious reasons, military bases need the most advanced security systems and defense mechanisms in the world to protect them from any type of threat or intruder. In today’s dangerous world, the military must be prepared for anything. This means taking care to protect their bases from possible attack from a wide range of methods. The military hired various companies to design the security methods they use. These are constantly being updated to stay one step ahead of terrorists and other people who would want to break into or destroy a military base. Here are some of the most popular methods of protecting military bases, some of which are made by Gibraltar US.

1. Security fencing

There are many different types of fencing to choose from when you are trying to protect a building from being broken into. Security fencing is special because it is designed with the purpose of being difficult to climb. It does not offer anything that could be used as a possible foothold, which someone would need if they were going to attempt to climb the fence. These fences are often electrified, although that is at the discretion of the military installation that is using it. Whether or not the security fence is electrified will often depend on the sensitivity of the materials being stored on the base. Security fences are incredibly strong, preventing them from being easily broken down by a vehicle that is being driven at a high rate of speed. This is critical to ensure that the facility is protected against potential suicide attacks.

2. Anti-ram vehicle barriers

This type of barrier comes in many different styles. You will see this type of barrier protecting most of the world’s most important buildings. As you might know from the name of these barriers, they are designed for the sole purpose of preventing a vehicle being driven at a high rate of speed from being able to ram its way through a security perimeter. Some of these barriers rise up from the ground when they are activated. They can then be lowered to allow authorized vehicles to gain access to the premises. These barriers are made from the strongest materials. They need to be incredibly strong in order to ensure that they will be able to stop very large and powerful vehicles, such as massive trucks or Hummers. While most of these barriers are designed to be temporary and portable, there are also several varieties that are made to be permanently fixed to the ground.

3. Radiation detectors

All military bases are outfitted with advanced radiation detectors so they they will have advance warning if someone is trying to smuggle a bomb into the facility with the intention of detonating it. These detectors will be able to identify any radioactive object when it is still very far away from the base, allowing personnel to prepare themselves and set up a game plan about what to do next.

4. Infrared detection systems

These are vary useful for determining if a person is being smuggled into a facility. These systems will detect the heat signature of a person who is hiding in a vehicle while they are trying to sneak past a security checkpoint. These are very similar to the devices that are commonly used at many border checkpoints around the world.

postheadericon Apartment Security: What should you look for?

There are many benefits to living in an apartment, especially when compared to homeownership. No mortgages! A landlord to cater to most of your problems! What could be better? However, according to the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC), apartments are significantly more likely to fall victim to burglars than the average, single-family household.

Now I know what you’re thinking—shouldn’t the landlord be responsible for securing the apartment complex, as well as the individual units? The short answer is, yes. However, as I’m sure we have all experienced at one point or another, not all landlords are as attentive or responsible as we would like. Unfortunately, that puts the bearing on you—the renter—to study a particular apartment complex before moving in to ensure that it is as secure as possible.

After all, this is your family we’re talking about.

While the most secure apartment complexes are considered “upscale,” it is becoming increasingly more common to find affordable apartments for rent that feature superior security features. With that in mind, before choosing to take up residence in any apartment complex, there are a few considerations you should take into account. These include:

Home security systems

Yes, something as trivial and inconspicuous as the common security system should be up-to-date, or at the very least, present on the premises. If an apartment complex lacks the appropriate system, consider installing your own personal system. In fact, because contemporary systems are usually small and wireless, negotiations with your landlord should be quick and painless.

Consider this…in a recent survey conducted by the NCPC, 85 percent of police and fire chiefs attested that a security system decreases the likelihood of a house being targeted by burglars.

A Solid Door

This is one aspect most apartment-hunters don’t pay much attention too unfortunately. When you are hunting for apartments, look for doors that have a solid-core structure. In other words, steer clear from apartments that feature doors with large glass panes that allow people to look inside and/or bust out the glass. Also, a good door should have a deadbolt in addition to the regular lock on the end of the doorknob. The actual deadbolt itself should secure inside of a reinforced doorjamb that can withstand a brute force entry. Another good security feature to look for is reinforced hinges as not many doors have them.

A Peephole

While you don’t want people peeping in at you, the ability to peep at them is a fantastic security feature that all apartment doors should feature. These nifty little devices essentially allow you to view who is at your door before you actually open it. This allows you to effectively screen individuals, only allowing the appropriate people to gain entry. If a door already has a peephole, go to the outside of the door and try to stare into the apartment through it. An inadequate peephole will allow some visibility into the apartment and should be replaced.

Visible, Clearly-Marked Cameras

A secure apartment complex will feature an array of surveillance cameras, strategically placed throughout the entire complex. A good landlord will have 10 or more depending on the size of the complex, with some having upwards of 20 to capture each and every angle. Most landlords will go one step further by placing a sign underneath the cameras letting would-be burglars know that they are on camera. Moreover, if the cameras are fairly new, they can most likely be accessed remotely via laptop, tablet, or even on a smart phone.

Perimeter Fencing

Many apartment complexes will feature fencing around the entire perimeter of the complex. If it were not obvious already, the purpose of this fencing is to keep unwanted intruders from entering the premises without permission. For optimal security, a perimeter fence should be at least 6 feet tall (as tall or taller than the average man) to make it difficult to get over.
